Little Otsu Calendars /ArtLittle Otsu Jennie Smith 2008 Calendar & Poster (top) The amazing 2008 calendar and poster tackles a representation of threatened and endangered species in California in her Kite Wars form. Both fauna and flora of all shapes and sizes intermingle with abstract animal forms in wondrous detail of graphite and watercolor. And when the year is over (or before it starts), you can turn the calendar over to reveal a companion poster. California has the largest number of endangered species in the mainland US and with the Endangered Species Act in danger itself, this project is not only a wonderful piece of art, but also a reminder of all the natural beauty that can be lost when we don't protect our biodiversity. Jennie Smith is a native San Franciscan and current resident. Her art was featured in last year's Whitney Biennial and is in the permanent collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art and the DeYoung Museum. Little Otsu Lart 2008 Map Calendar & Poster (bottom) The map calendar by Lart Cognac Berliner! The Lakes and Territories of the Greater 2008 is part theoretical map, part calendar, part poster, and all amazing watercolor & ink artwork. Inspired by old thrift store maps and old fashioned imagination, our map unfolds to find a 2008 land mass with a legend to hidden gems such as: facts about victorian times, time to plant bulbs, collecting old letters and other unnecessary but wonderful things. There is also a digital compass rose and other small details that seem to reveal themselves upon closer examination. On the back you'll find a close-up of a territory filled with fanciful watercolor flowers and a little lyrical line from Lart ("the green car hums like an insect in the wet alley"). The artwork on the poster is visually stunning and certainly suitable for framing to be enjoyed many years after 2008 has passed.
